Tema: This book takes an intrrdisciplinary approach and was designed as a communication tool for the rehabilitation team. The surgeon, the physical therapist, the social and reha-bilitation worker as well as the prosthetist are the typical members of this team. The manual describes the tasks of the respective team members and the necessity for cióse collaboration and information exchange in orderto achievethe máximum benefit for the amputee. The book, written by experts and compiled with a distinctive ¡nput of VIETCOT clinical and technical materials, is the first of its kind and has taken a very practice-oriented approach. It offers not oniy information on amputation itself but on physical therapy pre-prosthetic patient management and functional considerations for prosthetic prescription. This, for example, is reflected in a chapter 'Prosthetic Prescription and Design', which is based on functional levéis ofthe various ampútees. It is important for ever/one involved and so for us to learn and understand how to improve prosthetic rehabilitation according to international standards offit and function. Next to the clinical information this book therefore provides information on a technolo-gy approach independen from outside resources (by application of appropriate nation-al technology), as well as an insight of the global state of the art in prosthetic compo-nentry, patient care and clinical/technical rehabilitation. As the Head of the Faculty for Orthopaedic Technology I look forward to the impact that this book will have on improving inter-disciplinary communication and finally on the quality outcome of amputee rehabilitation
