MMT is the comerstone and the main theme of this book, so that the book is designed to give the reader as much information and understanding of what the Management of Medical Technology (MMT) is, what it does, its importance, and how it is (or shouid be) utilized for improved health care. This book is divided into three complementan/ parts. Part One includes the iheory portion of MMT. It has six chapters in which we explore the new intellectual space ofMMT and its theoretical background. The last chapter in this part ofthe book introduces the reader to the description ofthe empirical studies. Part Two is dedicated to the practico side of MMT. This part has six chapters as well. In these chapters we describe our study of MMT in American hospitals. We aiso relate MMT to issues of effectiveness and patient valué. Finally, in this part we discuss MMT in education. Part Three includes cases ofMMT in health care organizations. Eleven different cases are presented from several types of organizations, describing different phenomena ofMMT practices. Here are the descriptions ofthe individual chapters in this book; Chapter One introduces the concept, construct and definition oftechnology in general. The chapter focusses on the historical and theoretical evolution of the technology imperative in organizations, Chapter Two centers around the description, definition, and overall design of the intellectual space of MMT.
